NEW YEAR NEW YOU with Bio-energetic testing
What is the nature of the information obtained?
Running a Qest4 test is an example of a process called bio-energetic testing. Bio-energetic (or just ‘energetic’) testing is effectively ‘asking the body-mind a question’ and obtaining the response directly from a physiological signal without engaging the conscious and language centres of the mind. It is helpful to compare to other techniques that go part of the way towards this. Many people will be familiar with muscle testing or kinesiology. This is another form of bio-energetic testing applied by health practitioners. In kinesiology, the question is often asked verbally, or the subject may hold an object or substance that is being tested. The response is measured by changes in the contractile strength of the skeletal muscles, checked manually by the tester.
Another informative comparison is the phenomenon of ideo-motor response, which is used by hypnotherapists. When a subject is in a trance state, a set of pre-defined response patterns (e.g. raising one finger or another, which occurs without conscious effort) can be observed to obtain responses to questions about which the subject may have no conscious recollection. This method can be used to recover memories from non-conscious parts of the mind.
These examples bear similarities to Qest4 testing, but Qest4 testing goes one step further. The challenges or questions are presented in a micropower radio signal output rather than in words.
What distinguishes the Qest4 from manual methods and from many of the other devices on the market is the skill and experience that has been brought to bear over 30 years in collecting and refining the digital encoding methods and improving the technology for recording responses. The latest Qest4 system can run a large number of tests in a few minutes and thereby build a broad picture of energetic functioning and responses in the client’s body.
What exactly is meant by “energetic” in the context of bio-energetic testing?
The word ‘energetic’ does not relate to energy in the strict sense that a physicist would mean it. Instead, we are using the term loosely to refer to aspects of human functioning that are not just biomechanical (e.g. joints, muscles and motion) and biochemical (e.g. nutrients, proteins, hormones and oxidation). Informational signals govern the functioning of the human body. Some of these, such as the instructions for making proteins encoded in DNA are recognised by modern science. The epigenetic factors – how our experiences in life affect gene expression – are just beginning to be understood. It is likely that many other communication mechanisms at work have yet to be explained scientifically. Biology is a very young science.
The existence of control mechanisms beyond genetic determinism is not seriously disputed by modern science, but its implications have not filtered through to medicine in practice. This results from resistance to change because it is not yet clear how to employ the knowledge in systematic treatment programmes. When we obtain responses from a bioenergetic testing device, the information is a mixture of commentary on the physical, chemical, emotional and mental state. Indeed, part of the practitioner’s skill of bioenergetic testing is to consider the information that comes from the system and decide how to recommend an individualised health and wellness program.
How do we use this in health and wellness practice?
We can proceed down a number of paths. Firstly, we can feed the informational signatures highlighted by the test back to the body. The Qest4 provides us with a way of doing this: by creating an informational imprint in the form of drops, pills, or dermal patches.
That much is simple and is often quite clearly effective. However, most practitioners choose to use the Qest4 results to inform other aspects of a wellness programme according to their particular expertise. This commonly means nutrition, herbs, homoeopathy, kinesiology, acupuncture, osteopathy or emotionally-based therapies.
The practitioner working in this way can utilise the very flexible database and reporting system on the Qest4 to run the tests required to investigate different parts of the health picture and inform other treatment types within their training.
The QEST4 helps the practitioner find clues about how to make progress, though like with all detective work, some clues are more important than others.
So, what exactly do the results signify?
The one definite and unchanging aspect of interpreting the test results is as follows: if an item shows up as unbalanced (usually a red or yellow indication against the item in the displayed list), then that signals that among the potentially hundreds or thousands of items tested, the body gave an above or below average electrical resistance response. In different words, the body-mind system has indicated some kind of reaction to the item being tested, and, along the lines of homeopathy and the Law of Similars, we can use that to ‘remind’ the organism to improve that particular aspect of homeostasis.
The Qest4 test identifies items to which the body/mind system can learn better adaptive behaviours. These items may be as diverse as foods, pathogens, emotional patterns, colours or nutritional and pharmaceutical agents.
Do test results correlate with symptoms?
The answer to this is ‘sometimes yes, sometimes no’, which would be surprising if it was any other way. It is always reassuring for practitioners and clients if the test reports seem to confirm things that the client is reporting in the case history, perhaps even more so if they are things they have initially held back from telling the practitioner.
However, the real value of a bioenergetic testing system is to reveal things that are not obvious – patterns that can help change the system’s dynamics. These, by definition, are not the symptoms themselves. They may be recognisable as things closely associated with a symptom counterintuitive or apparently random.
A client’s state of health can be considered a complex 3-dimensional form about which we can only ever see a 2-dimensional snapshot. Combining multiple snapshots from different angles gives us a better impression of the overall shape.
When we want to help a client undo patterns of functioning that have been practised for a lifetime and even supported by genes ‘switched on’ by environmental influence, the process can be seen as stripping away ‘layers’. Bioenergetic testing using the QEST4, especially using the Comprehensive Analysis at the heart of the system, reveals what that person is ready to process, and those may or may not correlate with the main symptom that the client is presenting. As we peel away more layers, different causative aspects of the health picture reveal themselves
Are test results repeatable?
Rarely, if ever, will a test repeated two minutes later give the same set of responses as the first time. This is a critical point. As the system reveals the response to informational signals and the response to information is instantaneous – the response to the same questions will be different if you rerun the test. If you think about it, a question asked a second time is always different in context regarding how it is received and the response it provokes.
That’s not the same as saying that a physical parameter has changed, though the body responds constantly via PNIE. We might consider that a response has begun to the information revealed and an adaptation has begun. That adaptation may take a while to promote a noticeable physical change. The response may not occur at all initially, and sometimes feedback needs repeating or delivering in a new form due to the many forms of blockage we put up to change. The imprinted remedy helps with this process.
Comparisons to laboratory testing: This page should make clear there is very little common to the methods of energetic testing and laboratory testing. Both have a role to play in healthcare. Lab testing is essential in acute medicine; chronic patterns can often be differentiated. When using statistically-tested medicines or procedures, this is often necessary.
The physical process of testing
The Qest4 software contains digitally encoded information relating to many health-related factors. These include anatomy and physiology, body chemistry, medicines, nutrients and pathogens, mental and emotional factors, metabolic processes, and more. During a test, a set of these ‘signatures’, chosen by the practitioner, is output rapidly by the Qest4 hardware as electromagnetic signals. The body’s response to those signals is recorded using a simple and safe low-voltage circuit formed by holding two brass cylinders. The response being measured is small changes in the skin’s electrical resistance. This information is relayed back to the software. A report is generated on the computer of any responses that are outside specific limits.
